Great Gorge Adventure - Blondin

Blondin

On September 8 1860, Blondin, with Edward, Prince of Wales watching, carried his manager, Harry Colcord, on his back, over the gorge directly above this spot. Blondin offered to take the Prince across but the Prince declined. The Prince of Wales was so impressed with Blondin's performance that it is said that he presented him with a purse of gold coins. Blondin was the first to cross the Niagara Gorge on a rope. Over the years, eleven others crossed the gorge, but Blondin is Niagara's best known funambulist.
