We
had sailed down the HardangerFjord
overnight and arrived in Ulvik,
deep in the narrow Ulvikfjord, at 8am. Anchored a few hundred yards
from the town we had to use the tender again. The mountains here are
no where near as high or steep as in Sognefjord, and the area is more
populated with homes along a fair amount of the shoreline, one of
Norway's most fertile fruit-growing regions. However, one can hardly
call the place 'populated' with 500 people living in Ulvik and
another 700 in the whole district of some 722km². |

Flightseeing |
Another
beautiful day without a cloud in the sky and it was soon quite hot.
We wandered around Ulvik which is lovely, but only tiny with a couple
of shops and a supermarket. A large hotel and two smaller ones. Next
to the landing pier was a chap running sightseeing flights in his
seaplane which a few of the passengers took advantage of, but he only
had time to do about 3 or 4 trips during the time we were there. |

Admiring
the Views |
The
scenery was lovely. A number of passengers went off on a tour here
and were to rejoin the ship in Eidfjord later. Again the crew set up
a table next to the landing stage with refreshments. We were back on
the ship by 11.15am, to up anchor and sail to Eidfjord a couple of
hours away. Really lovely, sitting eating lunch Al Fresco marvelling
at the views. |
